These acts were called \u2018feasts of love\u2019, from the Greek word \u2018Agape\u2019, which refers to the highest type of spiritual love. This practice, however, was forgotten over time. The lovefeast of Apostolic times was revived by the Moravian Church in 1727. Congregants who had received Holy Communion were reluctant to go home, so Count Zinzendorf, early leader within the Moravian tradition, sent food so that they might continue in their worship.<\/p>\n\n    <\/component>    <\/div>\n    <div class=\"media-context__image\">\n                              <picture>\n      <source media=\"(min-width:768px)\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.queens.edu\/spirituallife\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2023\/09\/Moravian.png\">\n      <img decoding=\"async\"\n        class=\"media-context__img\"\n        src=\"https:\/\/www.queens.edu\/spirituallife\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2023\/09\/Moravian.png\"\n        alt=\"Woman lighting candles\"\n      \/>\n    <\/picture>\n  \n                  <\/div>\n  <\/div>\n<\/component>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since then, the Moravian Church established the custom of celebrating church festivals by partaking in a simple \u2018love feast\u2019 meal. The first love feasts of the Moravian Church in North America were held in Savannah, Georgia during the years 1735 and 1740. The first love feast in North Carolina took place November 17, 1753, at Bethabara and Salem in 1771.
