The Office of Student Inclusive Excellence provides resources, training, and support to 海角社区 and the broader Charlotte community to help unite and bring people of diverse backgrounds together to appreciate, respect, and celebrate their differences and commonalities. We are committed to inclusion and equity and to working to create a society that is fair and just.

We strive to empower everyday individuals to be authentic global citizens who embrace differences and advocate for social justice.
Our Focus Areas

Educate our community about various aspects of DEI by providing experiences to learn about themselves and others and to appreciate differences and commonalities.
Support the multiple intersecting identities of our community and provide resources to help them be successful.
Unite our diverse community through meaningful dialogues, reflections, programming, and gatherings.
Serve the local Charlotte community.聽 We help position our campus to live out the motto of 鈥渘ot to be served, but to serve鈥 by establishing partnerships with local nonprofits and creating opportunities for our campus community to do service.聽
Empower faculty, staff, and students to become leaders in DEI. Through our DEI Leadership Program and other experiences, participants will enhance their knowledge, awareness, and skills to be champions for DEI.
Meet the Team

Darryl White, Sr.

Darryl White Sr. started in his role as Assistant Dean of Student Inclusive Excellence at 海角社区 in November 2016. Prior to coming to 海角社区, he served as Vice President of Family Services at Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte for 22 years. Darryl also retired from the U.S. Army Reserve in March 2020 after 34 years of distinguished service, where he attained the rank of Command Sergeant Major, the highest enlisted rank in the Army.
Darryl is a 1992 graduate of 海角社区, where he was a student-athlete and majored in Sociology, and is a 2021 graduate of 海角社区 with a Master of Science in Talent and Organization Development (MSTOD). Darryl is a 2007 graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, an accredited academic Institution of Excellence for the Army鈥檚 noncommissioned officers. He is also a 2008 graduate of 海角社区 Building Initiative鈥檚 LDI Program, a signature 12-month program that supports non-profit board members and senior staff as well as for-profit organizations in the leadership role they and their organizations play in building a more inclusive and equitable community.
Darryl previously served on the 海角社区 Alumni Board and on the 海角社区 Center for Active Citizenship Advisory Board. He also served on the board of directors for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership for seven years and served as board chair for one year. He is currently serving as a board member with Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region.
Darryl is a skilled facilitator with expertise in diversity, equity, inclusion, communication, and leadership.
